Former member of the National Commission for Women, Nirmala Venkatesh, on Wednesday sprang a surprise by demanding the reopening of the Ayesha Meera murder case and its reinvestigation by the CBI, hinting at the role of Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal in pressurising police to let off the ‘actual killer.’
Nirmala’s charges comes close on the heels of Rajagopal’s broadside against Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. The MP’s followers believe that Jagan is the force behind Nirmala’s fresh allegations.
Speaking to reporters here, Nirmala, who probed the case when she was NCW member, alleged that local Rajagopal had played a key role in misleading the police investigation. Though she did not elaborate, she dropped enough hints to indicate that the MP had pressurised the cops to spare the family of a late minister.
Ayesha, a B Pharm student, was killed in her hostel near Ibrahimpatnam four years ago. Police caught a youth from Anasagaram village, P Satyam Babu, who was later convicted for life. TOI
