Hyderabad: A CBI team of Mumbai Special Crime Branch has arrived in Hyderabad to ascertain whether the third person picked up along with Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausar Bi by the Gujarat police was Tulsiram Prajapati. The trio were travelling in a private bus from Hyderabad to Sangli in Maharashtra in 2005 when the cops intercepted and picked them up.

According to sources, Prajapati was the sole witness to Sohrabuddin and Kausar Bi being whisked away by the police. The couple was later killed in fake encounters. While Sohrabuddin and his wife were taken to Gujarat, Prajapati was shifted to Rajasthan. After a while fearing that Prajapati could spill the beans on the Gujarat police officers who were involved in the kidnapping and killing of the husband and wife, bumped him off too on December 28, 2006.

The CBI in an affidavit told the Supreme Court that Prajapati’s killing was an integral part of the main criminal conspiracy and sought its nod for taking over investigation into his murder too. The apex court on April 8 directed the CBI to investigate the killing. The CBI team is expected to examine the owner of Sangeetha Travel, Afzalgunj, that owned the bus and its driver and conductor.
