Center comes under fire for petrol price hike

Posted by on May 16, 2011 0 Comment

Hyderabad: The steep hike in price of petrol, affected by the Center from midnight of Saturday, came in for severe criticism from political parties, trade organisations and other bodies.

The leader of opposition in the State Assembly, Mr N Chandrababu Naidu, condemned the hike and demanded the Centre to roll-back of petrol prices. He said that the UPA Government has increased petrol prices 20 times during the past seven years. He took the Government to task for helping the petroleum companies to increase their profits at the cost of the common man.

The State BJP President Mr G Kishen Reddy stated in a press note that the party would organise protest programmes at District and Mandal level throughout the State. He said it was atrocious on the part of the Congress Government to hike the petrol prices soon after the Assembly elections in five States. He said the Centre had created a history by hiking the petrol prices once again within a short period. He regretted that the petrol prices were hiked even when there was a reduction in the International crude oil prices. (NSS)
