Hyderabad: The TDP chief Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu has strongly condemned the police firing on farmers in Noida in Uttar Pradesh, killing four persons.
In a statement here on Tuesday, Mr. Naidu has said that though the farmers have been agitating for compensation and rehabilitation peacefully, the central and state governments have ignored their problems, precipitating the situation. He said such incidents were occurring only because of governments tried to acquire the lands of the poor, without their consent. He said it was atrocious that the lands of the poor were snatched away in the name of industrialization and given away to the rich real estate businessmen at throw away prices.
Mr. Naidu has said that the governments were resorting to exploiting the poor by acquiring lands through the outdated Land Acquisition Act of 1894. He has alleged that the central government was delaying introduction of the bill for amending the Act wantonly, despite the opposition parties including the TDP agitating for the change.
Mr. Naidu has said that the central and state governments should at least now specifically state their policies on land acquisition and prepare the Act in such a way that consent of the land owner was compulsory for acquisition. (NSS)
