Hyderabad: The TDP chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, today visited the Maternity Hospital at Nayapool and comforted the Intermediate student, who was allegedly raped in broad day light in the city on Sunday. He also handed over to her Rs 50,000 as help from his party.
Talking to the media, Mr Naidu has alleged that the law and order situation has totally deteriorated. He has questioned how a common man or woman could expect protection from the government, if a girl was raped in broad day light in the capital city. He said that as the victim was studying Intermediate, the NTR Trust would help her to pursue her studies to any level. He said that women lacked protection after the Congress came to power. He has demanded that the rape victim be extended all possible help by the government. He has also demanded that the accused be caught and sternly punished.
Meanwhile, police have denied that the girl was gang raped. They said she had a love affair with one Venkatesh and he alone was involved in the incident.
Reacting sharply to the police statement, the TDP leader, Ms Nannapaneni Raja Kumari, has expressed anger on the police. She has questioned how the police could conclude that there was no gang rape. (NSS)
