Hyderabad: Urging the Chief Minister Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy to solve the problems of the Beedi workers immediately, the TDP Chief and former Chief Minister Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu has addressed a letter here on Tuesday.

In his letter, Mr Naidu has said that the Beedi workers were leading a pathetic life and were starving for food as they had no work on one side and the sky rocketing prices of essentials goods haunting them on the other. He said that the beedi workers were getting meager Rs.87 for thousand beedis even though they work for the entire day. He has alleged that the government has failed to enhance their wages, though price of the beedi packets was doubled in 11 years.

Stating that the State government had released a draft of minimum wages of beedi workers responding to the statewide protests and enhanced the wages to Rs. 130 for thousand beedies. He said the government had assured that it would issue orders with in 60 days and had not acted on , he said that the government not even issued further orders on its own assurance though the deadline ended on January 30th 2011.

The State government failed to respond on the issue though the beedi workers once again staged dharna from June 9, 2011 at Indira Park for three days, he alleged. Criticising the State government for its inability to increase the salary of the Beedi workers, Mr. Naidu said that the West Bengal government was increasing the salaries of the Beedi Workers every two-years.

Demanding the State government to respond immediately on this issue, Mr. Naidu said that the government has to issue the orders setting the wages at Rs.145 per thousand beedis.
