TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday wrote to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy urging him to change the Hyderabad Metro Rail corridor-II alignment to protect historic monuments and bazaars like Sultan Bazaar, MJ Market, Jambagh, Ameerpet and Begumpet.
The TRS president’s ninepage letter was handed over to Kiran Kumar at the camp office by TRS floor leader in the assembly, E Rajendar, and other party MLAs and politburo members.
Chandrasekhar Rao wanted the metro rail authorities to hold open discussions on the detailed project report, concessional agreement and other relevant reports and review them in the interest of general public.
“We want the government to change the contents of agreement in the larger interest of the public. We also want the government to think of constructing underground metros to avoid further traffic congestion at Punjagutta, Ameerpet and Begumpet. Our party is not opposed to the development and modernization of the city’s infrastructure, but we will not allow metro rail at the cost of the very history of the city,” the TRS floor leader said.
Chandrasekhar Rao in his letter alleged that metro rail appeared to be more of a real estate project than a railway project.
“We have serious reservations on certain provisions of the concession agreements signed by the government for this project,” he said. The TRS leader also expressed apprehensions at the security issues arising out of the elevated metro rail corridor that passes by the Legislative Assembly. TOI
