Telangana Congress Steering Committee chairman and Parliament member K Keshava Rao has termed Union home minister P Chidambaram’s statement in the Lok Sabha that the Congress did not take a stand on Telangana as most unfortunate and dissatisfying, and was intended to sideline the main issue.
Speaking to newsmen after the steering committee meeting at his residence here on Saturday, Rao said the Congress Working Committee had passed a resolution on Telangana in 2001 and the Congress Core Committee decided to start the process for Telangana formation on December 9, 2009. Even the Rajasekhara Reddy government had categorically said on February 12, 2009 that it had no objection to formation of Telangana. Thus, the Congress party’s stand was categorical and unequivocal on Telangana statehood, he claimed.
Rao took strong exception to Chidambaram for mentioning about a party (referring to Jagan Reddy’s YSR Congress) which had not yet been recognised by the Election Commission and had only one MLA. Express Buzz
