Chief minister frowns at illegal statues

Reacting to a news report “Netas’ statues, a stumbling block to city traffic” published in these columns last week, the CM has Kiran Kumar Reddy directed officials to take measures to prevent installation of statues without permission.

Based on his instructions, secretary to chief minister K S Jawahar Reddy sent a letter to GHMC commissioner M T Krishna Babu directing him to take measures to check the practice. “We have asked all GHMC zonal commissioners not to allow installation of statues at junctions without permission from the corporation. The statues which have already been unveiled will not be removed. We have also issued clear instructions to demolish illegal pedestals,” Krishna Babu told TOI.

However, it remains to be seen whether civic officials would indeed act. TOI
