Chiru Condemns Police Firing: Seeks Judicial Probe

Hyderabad: The Praja Rajyam party president, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, who had agreed to merge his party with the ruling Congress, has condemned the police firing on fishermen at Kakarapalli in Srikakulam district.

In a statement here on Tuesday, the PRP president stated that the incident had occurred because of the selfishness of some politicians. Stating that he would not hesitate to pinpoint the lapses of the government even as his party was an ally of the Congress, he alleged that the government policies were in favour of the rich only.

Describing the police firing as inhuman, Mr Chiranjeevi said he would always speak on behalf of the poor masses. He demanded that the government institute a high-level judicial inquiry into the incident.

The former actor has demanded that the government, if necessary, should cancel the license of the thermal power plant. He said that the government should stand by the people in view of the uncertainty prevailing in the coastal areas. (NSS)
