Hyderabad: Prajarajyam Party (PRP) president Chiranjeevi on Saturday declined the Congress offer of being nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra and would prefer to wait for an opening to the Upper House from Andhra Pradesh. According to sources, Chiranjeevi made it clear to the Congress that he would not like to be nominated to the RS from anywhere except his home state.

Until then, he would prefer to play any role the Congress wants him to play in the state, the sources said. Indications are that a coordination committee would be constituted in the state for effective functioning of the state government and the party and Chiranjeevi would be made its chairman.

The mega star is keen on getting proper slots in the Congress party and Kirans government for his PRP coll e a g u e s as early as possible. The p a r t y sources said Chiranjeevi is expecting three c ab i n e t berths, the post of special representative of Andhra Pradesh in Delhi, DCC presidents for two or three districts and some posts at the top level of PCC which is expected to be re-constituted after Botsa Satyanarayana took charge.

We requested the Congress leadership to give us three cabinet berths so that we could accommodate PRP leaders from the three regions, the sources said. If there is any problem with that, the PRP will insist on the appointment of one of its leaders as the special representative of the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi, the sources said.

A section in the party is also in favour of sending former Rajya Sabha member and now MLC C Ramachandraiah as the special representative which is of the rank of cabinet minister. Chiranjeevi is said to be in favour of this arrangement as Ramachandraiah, who served two terms in the Rajya Sabha, would be useful in case the former gets a cabinet berth next year.

The names doing the rounds for the post of ministers are C Ramachandraiah (Rayalaseema), P Anil Kumar (Telangana) and Ganta Srinivasa Rao (coastal area). However, other senior leaders such as Buragadda Veda Vyas and Kotagiri Vidyadhar Rao are also eying the post. Till the next Rajya Sabha elections, Chiranjeevi is planning a hectic party program, most probably after the Congress-PRP merger meeting towards the end of July. TOI
