Hyderabad, Feb.8 (NSS): The Praja Rajyam party chief and former megastar, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, received an enthusiastic welcome at the Shamshabad airport when he came back from New Delhi after announcing his decision to merge his party in the Congress.
A large number of PRP workers, holding party flags, the Congress workers carrying the national tri-colour flags and Mr Chiranjeevi’s fans came to the airport and raised slogans hailing him.
The party MLAs also welcomed the decision of Mr Chiranjeevi to merge the party with the Congress. Some 15 MLAs turned up at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad and received the party president.
The Balconda MLA, Mr Anil Kumar, said that the Congress party would sweep the 2014 general elections with the merger of the PRP. Referring to the Telangana issue, he said that the ball was in the court of the Centre and it would probably take an appropriate decision on it. In the wake of the party’s merger with the Congress party, “we would strictly adhere to whatever decision the Congress high command” takes, he added.
Another MLA, Mr Bandaru Satyananda Rao, said that Mr Chiranjeevi could achieve his ambitions by joining the Congress Party. He also said that Mr Chiranjeevi faced a lot of criticism over the last two years, but could successfully withstand it. He expressed hope that Mr Chiranjeevi could successfully face the “Gobles campaign” against him by his opponents. There was no scope for groups in the Congress party, he added.
Mr Anne Ram Babu, MLA, said that clean image and charisma among the people were the strengths of Mr Chiranjeevi.
When asked about ministerial berths, he said that they were ready to accept berths in the Cabinet but would not demand the same, he added. (NSS)
