Hyderabad: Mega-star-turned politician Chiranjeevi is likely to launch a TV news channel under the auspices of the Congress chief, Ms Sonia Gandhi.

Mr Chiranjeevi has, in fact, planned to launch a news channel when he floated his party and some how it had not materialized. The Congress party which also needed to have its own TV channel, is believed to have decided to extend all support to Chiranjeevi in launching the channel.

The Sakshi newspaper and Sakshi TV channel have been supporting the Congress party as long as then chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was alive. But soon after his death, his son, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, parted company with the Congress party and his channel has become antagonistic towards the Congress party. As even other TV channels were also anti-Congress, the party High Command has been feeling the need for launching its own channel.

It was in this context, the party leadership has come to know about Mr Chiranjeevi’s own plans of launching a channel and Ms Sonia Gandhi has decided to support him.

According to the information, Mr Chiranjeevi has already applied for licence to launch the channel and started the ground work. As Chiranjeevi’s channel has the backing of the ruling party and the blessings of the super boss, reports say that it would be a reality within two to three months. Mr Chiranjeevi has called an expert broadcaster from the USA and entrusted him, the technical work of the channel. Countdown for the channel has already started and it would be on air within two to three months. (NSS)
