Hyderabad: The State government today declared a four-day State mourning, including Sunday, in the wake of the passing away of Puttaparthi pontiff Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
In a condolence message, the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, on behalf of the State government, conveyed grief over the demise of the Baba. He stated that Bhagwan Baba, who remained a symbol of love and peace, had propagated spirituality and service spirit throughout the world. Sri Satya Sai Baba was a great saint, who extended education, health services and drinking water facilities to lakhs of poor people. Lakhs of people had rebirth by taking treatment in the super specialty hospitals established by Baba, he added. “We should follow the teachings of Satya Sai Baba Love all – Serve all”, he added.
Mr Reddy, who air-dashed to Puttaparthi along with the Governor, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan, on Sunday morning, also declared a holiday in Anantapur district on Wednesday, the day on which last rites of Sai Baba would be performed. Recalling the services rendered by Sri Satya Sai Baba, the Chief Minister said State funeral will be given to the departed soul. (NSS)
