Hyderabad: Chief Minister Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy today inaugurated a three day Mango Show and Sale, organized by the Department of Horticulture in association with Economic committee and Exhibition Committee at Exhibition Grounds here on Saturday.
Minister for Horticulture Mr Ram Reddy Venkat Reddy said that the government would organize Mango show cum sale for one month from May 15-June 15, from the next year at Exhibition grounds, to encourage the farmers. He also said that the government would conduct Mango show at district level in twelve district headquarters from next year. He informed that the government was giving Rs 50,000 subsidy on drip irrigation for SC and ST farmers. He said that they were trying to enhance it to Rs one lakh from next year. He said that the government has initiated efforts for bringing “Geographical Identification” for Banginapalli Mango, to create name and fame for this variety in International markets.
Horticulture Commissioner, Ms Rani Kumudini said that the show was amid at displaying and demonstrating post harvest management technology like cold storages, ripening chambers, ethylene emitters and to bring awareness among consumers and general public on harmful effects of use of calcium carbide for ripening of various fruits. She said that about 300 mouth-watering mango varieties are being exhibited. She said that the show was to boost production of mangoes. A Workshop on Advanced Trends in Mango will be held on June 6 at the Auditorium in Exhibition grounds, she said and added that about 49 farmers from 13 major mango growing districts were participating in the show to create branding for their produce and varieties. She urged the people not to buy fruits which were ripened with Calcium Carbide. She said that the show would be extended depending on response from people.
