Hyderabad: The Chief Minister Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, today sanctioned Rs. 35 crores towards the contingency plan for drinking water supply during this summer. Out of this, Rs.15 crores is for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) and Rs.20 crores towards drinking water supply in other Urban Local Bodies.

The Chief Minister also directed the HMWS&SB to supply water on alternate days in areas under Alwal, Malkajgiri, Qutbullapur, Kapra and Uppal where the drinking water is now being supplied once in 3 days and once in 5 days only.

The Chief Minister said that as there is no problem for availability of water, the HMWS&SB authorities should chalk out immediate action plans to supply water on alternate days in these areas. The Chief Minister also asked the Board officials to collect random samples of water on a daily basis from different areas in the city and the result should be made known to public on every Monday.

The officials informed the Chief Minister that due to power breakdowns during summer, there are problems of pumping and supply of water in some areas.
