Hyderabad, April 10: The Chief Minister, Mr. K Kiran Kumar Reddy paid rich tributes to Mahatma Jhotirao Phule, noted social reformer, on the occasion of his 185th birth anniversary on April 11.
In a message today, the Chief Minister described Jyotirao Phule as a revolutionary, who fought for reservations for Backward Classes in education, employment and political posts. Phule, a messiah of Backward Classes, not only strove for their uplift, but also opened schools exclusively for women and promoted widow marriages, he said.
For his fight to achieve equal rights for peasants and the lower caste and his contribution to the field of education, he was regarded as one of the most important figures in Social Reform Movement in Maharashtra during his times and he was called as ‘The father of Indian Social Revolution’, the Chief Minister said.
Reminding that Jyotirao Phule fought for social justice during the 19th century, the Chief Minister exhorted the youth to emulate his high ideals. (NSS)
