Hyderabad: In an interesting political development, Mr Nandamuri Harikrishna, the Telugu Desam Party Rajya Sabha MP and the elder son of the late Chief Minister, N T Rama Rao, seems to be gearing up for a fight against the party president, Mr N Chnadrababu Naidu, to wrest control over the party.
This became clear from a press statement released in the name of Harikrishna, released by his associates at the Ambedkar statue, here on Saturday, where the party president, Mr Chandrababu Naidu was addressing the gathering expressing solidarity with the social activist Anna Hazare, who has resorted to an indefinite hunger strike demanding the Jan Lok pal Bill.
The media release by Mr Hari Krishna made no mention about the party president, Mr Chandrababu Naidu and the slew of protests being undertaken by the party over the past some time in protest against the huge corruption in the country. Mr Hari Krishna stated that it was the late N T Rama Rao, who had initiated a slew of measures to fight the rampant corruption in the State, like launching the institution of ‘Dharma Mahamatra’ to probe the corrupt government officials and the establishment of the Lok Yukhta and the Upa Lok Ayukhta in our State. He also added that being a descendant of the late leader, he was taking forward his intention of fighting the huge corruption in the State. Mr Hari Krishna sought the support of the people in his proposed fight against corruption to uphold the aspirations of late NTR.
It was clear from the media release of Mr Hari Krishna that a cold war has been going on between Mr Chandrababu and the family members of late N T R and the latter was looking forward to wrest control of the party. Mr Hari Krishna was stated to be gearing up the party cadre to fight Mr Babu. (NSS)
