Colony Associations welcome GHMC’s plastic ban

Hyderabad: Representatives of Colony Welfare Associations in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits on Saturday welcomed and appreciated the bold move to ban the manufacture/ sale/ use of plastic carry bags by the Corporation.

Expressing their views at a meeting on strict implementation of ban on use of plastic carry bags at the GHMC Head Office, the Associations’ representatives expressed their solidarity with Corporation and said they will help in all step taken up by GHMC in making the city a clean, green clean environment.

The ban on plastic carry bags will come into effect from July 1, 2011.

Health and Sanitation Additional Commissioner Aleem Basha announced that GHMC is taking all necessary measures to make it a success by conducting awareness campaign in colonies, schools, advertisement in print media, posters, banners, taking declaration from the business establishments during issue of renewal / new license.

Regarding awards for best maintained colony, on the request from the representatives to announce more number of awards to each zone instead of one award announced earlier, the Additional Commissioner said their request will considered during standing committee meeting.

Representatives from 56 Colonies’ Welfare Associations attended the meeting out of 130 registered.(INN)
