New Delhi: The Congress party on Friday appointed fire brand leader from Telangana region Renuka Chowdhury as official spokesperson of party.
According to sources, the Congress party took this decision with other party leaders targeting party on Telangana issue in the state and at the Centre.
Congress party hoped that the fire brand leader from Telangana would effectively deal with parties on Telangana.
According to reports, the party took this decision following the directions from All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi.
The announcements in this regard were made by Janardan Dwivedi, who continues to head the party’s media department.
The party also appointed Rashid Alvi as spokesperson and former union minister Suresh Pachauri as head of its research and coordination department.
The party also entrusted Vilas Muttemwar, appointed party general secretary last month, with the responsibility of monitoring government flagship schemes and party programs.
In a statement, Dwivedi said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has reconstituted a few departments and made a few changes in work allocation of general secretaries and secretaries.
The party will now have four spokespersons. While party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan was inducted as minister of state (independent charge) for environment and forests in the cabinet reshuffle in July, Shakeel Ahmed was given charge of West Bengal before April-May assembly elections in the state. Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Manish Tewari continue to be party spokespersons. (INN)
