Cong leaders don’t understand farmers woes: Venkaiah

Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party national leader, Mr M Venkaiah Naidu, here on Thursday strongly felt that the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, the UPA chairperson and Congress president, Ms Sonia Gandhi, the Union Home Minister, Mr P Chidambaram, the Chief Minister, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, and all Congress leaders have understanding of the problems being faced by the farmers in the country.

Mr Venkaiah Naidu was speaking while participating in a 24-hour dharna organised by the Kisan Morcha at Indira Park demanding seed supply to the farmers. The BJP leader has demanded that the Centre and State governments which have miserably failed to solve the problems of the farmers declare “Farmers Emergency.”

Questioning what would happen if the distressed farmers declared “Crop Holiday” Mr Naidu said that agriculture sector will in a great crisis if the present anti-farmer conditions continue to prevail.


Speaking on the occasion, the State BJP president, Mr G Kishan Reddy, has challenged the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, to prove his sincerity over solving the problems of the harassed farmers. Mr Reddy suggested to the Chief Minister to visit a seed shop incognito and procure cotton seed and prove his sincerity over the problems of the tillers. He said that the Congress party was not finding sufficient time to indulge in group and faction fights.

Another senior BJP leader, Mr Bandaru Dattatreya, demanded that the State government take up seed distribution on a war-footing and rise to the occasion. The senior Telugu Desam leader and former minister, Mr Kadiam Srihari, also spoke.
