Delhi: Congress MPs, Ministers and MLAs from Telangana in Andhra Pradesh would meet Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and other top party leaders on June 15 to press their demand for granting statehood to the region.
The Telangana Congress leaders would meet Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, in-charge of Congress affairs in Andhra Pradesh, too on June 15, Congress MP G Vivek told PTI here tonight.
Claiming that they have entered the “last phase” of talks over the separate Telangana demand, the Congress MPs, MLAs and other leaders have decided to meet party leadership in Delhi for a quick decision on the long-pending issue.
“This is the last phase of our talks. Congress MPs, Ministers, MLAs and others are going to Delhi on June 9 and 10. We will meet top party leaders. If we don’t get a statement say by June 25, we will be constrained to opt for a direct action,” Congress Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao had said on June five.
He was speaking after a meeting of Telangana Congress leaders, including 9 MPs, 7 Ministers, 18 MLAs and some MLCs.
Rao said they would remind the top leadership that Mukherjee had earlier asked the pro-Telangana leaders to wait till elections in five states gets over.
He had said they would tell party leadership that they were waiting for a statement on the statehood issue.
Asked whether they would quit their posts in case no positive response came from the Centre, he said they were ready to do anything. “Our action plan for Telangana would depend on the response we get from the Centre,” Rao said. Sify News
