Hyderabad: The CPI State Secretary, Dr K Narayana, on Thursday demanded that the AICC general secretary, Mr Rahul Gandhi, visit Andhra Pradesh and respond to the agitations of the tribals and local people against acquisition of their lands.

Dr Narayana, in a press release here, stated that the protests of the farmers against land acquisition at Noida in Uttar pradesh were highlighted at the national level. In support of the people, Mr Rahul Gandhi staged a dharna and got arrested. Reminding that the Congress was a national party and it must have a uniform policy on the people’s issues throughout the country, he pointed out that land acquisitions and land allotments were the highest in Andhra Pradesh.

“The people, who were agitating against forcible acquisition of their agricultural lands, were killed in police firing at Sompet and Kakarapalli in the State. The people in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore and surrounding areas of Hyderabad and Secunderabad were also agitating against acquisition of their lands for industrial allotments. The police booked cases against thousands of agitators and sent them to jails”, he stated.

Referring to revolt of tribals against mining of China Clay at Araku Valley in Visakhapatnam district, he alleged that the agreements for mining of China Clay in Devarakonda of Nalgonda district were made after finding them through satellites. He questioned as to why Mr Rahul Gandhi was not visiting Andhra Pradesh and agitating in support of the people who were agitating in protest against acquisition of their farm lands by the government.
