Hyderabad: Following directions from the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Chief Secretary, Mr S V Prasad, today had a telephonic review of BT Cotton seed supply in the State with the district Collectors, Superintendents of Police and other officials.
The Chief Secretary told the Collectors that the BT Cotton seed should be made available as per requirement in the districts and under any circumstances there should not be any black-marketing. He also said that stringent action would be taken against those indulging in black-marketing.
The Chief Secretary informed the district Collectors that as against the State’s requirement of 91 lakh packets of seed, one crore packets would be supplied. He said that so far 43.84 lakh packets have been supplied to the districts and arrangements have already been made to deliver the remaining 56.16 lakh packets within the next few days.
The Chief Secretary asked the Collectors and SPs to take necessary steps for orderly distribution of the seed packets to the needy farmers. The Chief Secretary was informed by the officials that some erring dealers and distributors have already been arrested for indulging in black-marketing.
The State government advised the farmers to choose among the available BT hybrids as all of them contain necessary genes and have yield parameters also. Farmers are also advised to use the right seed ratio of not exceeding one and a half packets of BT seed per acre.
