Hyderabad: With the Andhra Pradesh High Court giving a green signal to the State Election Commission to go ahead with Local Body elections, the state Congress has begun hectic preparations to ensure that it performs well.
According to sources, Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Tuesday decided to convene a District Congress Committee office bearers meeting on June 16 to discuss the preparations for the impending polls.
The sources say that the PCC chief has directed all DCC presidents and vice-presidents to attend the meeting to discuss the party position in their respective districts. The meeting will also sort out the possible candidates for Local Body elections.
According to sources, the PCC chief will tell the DCC heads to aim to capture 100 per cent seats in the elections. However, this would be extremely difficult to implement, considering the rapid advancement of the YSR Congress Party in the Seemandhra regions and the TRS being in the limelight in Telangana region on the back of the separate statehood agitation.
Sources further say that the PCC chief would try and identify the weak points and make recommendations for bolstering the party.
Mr Satyanarayana will also try and elicit the opinion of party leaders over the fielding of candidates from the soon-to-be-defunct Praja Rajyam Party.
Sources said the PCC chief would also enquire about those leaders who are allegedly extending support to YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy and take disciplinary action against them.(INN)
