Hyderabad: Reminding the elected representatives from Telangana that they would have to honour the promise made to the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee, its convenor M Kodandaram on Friday called on the Legislators to resign since the Centre has failed to announce a decision on Telangana by June-end.

Talking to media persons after emerging out of meeting with senior Congress leader from Telangana K Kesava Rao at the Exhibition Grounds Society Office, Prof Kodandaram stated that the Telangana leaders have to resign to their posts as per the deadline set by TPJAC to mount pressure on Centre towards achieving the separate statehood.

He disclosed that he had asked Mr Kesava Rao to take a decision on resignations in the Telangana Congress leaders meeting itself, and make efforts towards achieving formation of Telangana state by intensifying the pressure on the Centre.

Prof Kodandaram also appealed to the Congress leaders to come out with a clear agenda on Telangana.

Prof Kodandaram said the TPJAC would extend full support to the Legislators if they seek re-elections and would not field any candidates against them.

“If the Telangana leaders fail to resign from their posts, the people of the region would not forgive them, but instead teach them a fitting lesson in any subsequent elections,” the separate statehood protagonist said.

He also disclosed that he had told Mr Kesava Rao that Telangana leaders should not bow down and accept any financial packages and the constitution of Regional Councils to delay the separate statehood demand. “They were reminded that their main agenda should be formation of separate state for Telangana people,” Prof Kodandaram said.

“Except Telangana we do not want any packages and regional councils,” he made it clear.

He said the people of the region are eagerly waiting for decision of Congress Ministers MPs, MLAs and MLCs on their resignation.
