Hyderabad: The YSR Congress Party on Sunday complained to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Mr Bhanwar Lal, that the “henchmen” of the Health Minister and Congress candidate in Kadapa Parliamentary constituency, Dr D L Ravindra Reddy, tried to send out YSR Congress party agents from the polling stations and misbehaved with the polling staff.

The YSR Congress Party leader, Mr P S V Prasad, met the Chief Electoral Officer in his chamber in the Secretariat and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

Speaking to the media, Mr Prasad said that Dr Ravindra Reddy entered the polling station of Guttikonda under Mydukur constituency and forcibly sent out the polling officer, Ms Sindhuja, by using vulgar language against her. The followers of Mr Ravindra Reddy also created disturbances at 39, 140, 142, 143 and 144 polling stations in Khajipet and some polling stations in Thimmareddipally and Nandipadu and threatened the YSR Congress Party agents. He also alleged that the Minister was resorting to arm-twisting methods fearing defeat in the election. He also reminded that Dr Ravindra Reddy had confessed that he had won the 2009 election because of rigging of 9,000 votes.

Mr Prasad said that 100 YSR Congress leaders were arrested on pretext of bind over. These leaders had no criminal background in the past. He demanded that the YSR Congress Party leaders should be released immediately and provide opportunity to them to participate in democratic election process. He also regretted that the CEO was not reacting and taking action on their complaints. He alleged that the Congress party, the Chief Minister and the Health Ministers were bringing pressure on the Chief Electoral Officer to act in their favor. (NSS)
