Hyderabad: Describing the news reports published against him in ‘Sakshi’ and ‘The Hindu’ newspapers as utterly false, the Health Minister and Congress nominee in Kadapa Lok Sabha byelection, Dr D L Ravindra Reddy, has said that he would file a defamation suit for Rs 10 crores against the “Sakshi” newspaper.
Making serious allegations against the YSR Congress party chief, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, Dr Ravindra Reddy said that the former would not accept even if his mother, Ms Vijayamma was made Chief Minister. He also said that Mr Y S Vivekananda Reddy, would have become chief minister if Mr Jagan proposed his uncle’s name for the post when Dr YSR died in helicopter accident.
Speaking to mediapersons at the CLP office here on Wednesday, Dr Reddy said that ‘The Hindu’ newspaper has published false news against him and urged the journalists to take his version before publishing such news stories. He also said that he would be filing a defamation suit for Rs 10 crores against the ‘Sakshi’ newspaper for publishing the false news item. He said the newspaper published a news item alleging that he accepted a bribe of Rs 10 crores for giving permissions to new medical colleges in the State. Alleging that the “Sakshi” newspaper was not even useful as toilet napkin, he said that he had issued a fresh notification as per All India Medical Council (AIMC) guidelines and based on the report of high-powered committee.
Stating that late chief minister Dr YSR was his good friend, Dr Reddy said that he was writing a book titled ‘Making of a Chief Minister’. He said that he was writing every aspect of his life and experiences, about political leaders and bureaucrats and how they made money. He also said that he was loyal to the Congress party and never aspired for chief minister’s post. “One should have luck and ability to become chief minister”, he added.
Dr Ravindra Reddy said that he strayed into politics accidentally and became an independent MLA in 1978. He always wished Dr YSR become Chief Minister. He said that he never requested the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, to include him in his Cabinet. He also said that he reached this level because of Congress party and said that even the Opposition party leaders respected Dr YSR.
Dr Reddy made it clear that he was contesting the Kadapa Lok Sabha by-election at the direction of the party high command as the party position in Kadapa was bad. He said that there was a feeling in YSR Congress Party and journalists that the Congress cadre was sailing with Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy. He said that the traditional vote bank of the party was in tact with the Congress party only. He reiterated that the Congress workers were firmly with the Congress even though they accompanied Mr Jagan at the time of YSR statue unveiling program in Proddutur, Badwel and Jammalamadugu.
Reiterating that he never aspired for chief minister post, Dr Reddy said that he was an MLA when the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s father was a minister. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy became an MLA when he was a minister, he pointed out. He said that he joined Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy’s Cabinet on the condition of fighting against Mr Jagan, who is the embodiment of corruption. He urged the media to take his version before writing about him. He said that he was not the person like Mr Jagan, who wants to become chief minister just because his father was Chief Minister. He pointed out that Mr Jagan left the Congress party when he was denied chief minister post. He also said that he would have become MP from Kadapa in 1989 and 1999 as on both occasions late YSR asked him to contest from the seat.
Asked why he did not resign from minister post before opting to contest the election, Dr Reddy said that the party high command directed him to contest in the elections and not to quit the Cabinet. He also made it clear that he was ready to submit his resignation if it was mandatory. He revealed that the Congress will be lodging a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer against the candidatures of Mr Mangali Krishna and Mr Devireddy Shashidhar Reddy as both were notorious hired killers. He said that it was not possible to buy the people with money though it was possible to buy leaders easily.
Exuding confidence that the Congress would emerge winner, he said that Mr Jagan would lose election as he is seen as a corrupt monster. Refuting the remarks of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy against the AICC president, Ms Sonia Gandhi, Dr Ravindra Reddy said that Mr Jagan was not equivalent even to a nail of Ms Sonia Gandhi’s toe. Dr Reddy said that he developed liking for Congress party when Ms Sonia Gandhi politely rejected Prime Minister’s post twice and the AICC genera secretary, Mr Rahul Gandhi, rejecting a berth in the Union cabinet.
