Hyderabad: Refusing to respond to the demand of the TDP Chief Mr N Chandrababu Naidu that the Congress Party should take a firm decision on Telangana issue, or tender an apology to the people of the State for it’s incapacity to do so, the PCC Chief Mr D Srinivas has said that the Telangana people won’t tolerate the Congress if it goes back on the demand of separate Telangana by tendering an apology to the people..
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan here on Tuesday, Mr Srinivas said that the Congress party was firm on Telangana issue, and hence it has started the process of creation of separate State and appointed Justice Srikrishna Committee. He said that the Ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs were in favor of Telangana and the Party never said that it was against the formation of separate State. He said that the demand of separate Telangana was a big issue, and it must influence the local body elections. The Telangana issue was pending due to various reasons, though the Centre has taken a decision on it, he said and added that the Centre will solve it, understanding the feelings of Telangana people.
Mr Srinivas said that there was confusion about the MLAs who were meeting the YSR Congress Chief Mr YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the Chief Minister Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy. He said that he has no idea about the MLAs who participated in Mr Jagan’s meeting today, and added that the Congress Party will face the local body elections, as well as the confusion prevailing due to some MLAs meeting Mr Jagan. When asked about some districts’ committee leaders shifting their loyalties towards Mr Jagan, the PCC Chief said that the in- charges will look after the local body elections.
Responding to a query, Mr Srinivas said that the Congress party had provided 34 per cent reservations for the BCs and it would strive to continue it, and added that it was not correct to say that the government would not implement the reservation on the pretext that some one might go to the Supreme Court. He said that the Congress party has the responsibility of protecting the reservation for the BCs and added that he will try to bring pressure on the Centre on amendment of the Constitution.
He called upon the party cadre to prepare for the local body elections and asked the DCCs, MLAs, MLCs and MPs to conduct review meetings on the ensuing local body elections. He said that the cadre has to prepare themselves to face the local body elections effectively, though the reservation issue was yet to be cleared. He stated that the State government has indicated that the local body elections would be held in the near future. He said that the term of many local bodies would be completed by July 21. He also revealed that he will conduct a meeting with the DCCs within a week and asked the DCC Presidents to send reports to him on the situation of the party before the meeting.
