EC urged to check money power in kadapa By Polls

Hyderabad: The Elections Watch and Jana Chaitanya Vedika on Wednesday urged the Election Commission to take steps to check “money power” in Kadapa by-polls.

The Chief Electoral Officer, Mr Banwarlal today released a poster of Election Watch brought out to cerate awareness among the voters of Kapada about the sanctity of votes and efforts of candidates to influence the voters through illegal means and ways.

Speaking to the media on the occasion , the former Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court, Mr Ambati Laxmana Rao said that the EC should create an atmosphere in Kadapa in which the people could exercise their franchise in Kadapa by-polls without fear. He alleged that some candidates were trying to influence the voters by distributing money and liquor.

He underlined the need to deploy maximum number of policemen at check posts, and checking illegal transportation of money for the by elections in the district.

“In 2009 elections , 80 to 90 percent of votes were polled in some villages in Kadapa. Interestingly, maximum number of these votes went to a particular candidate. The EC should see that such incident would not reoccur now”, he said.

Reminding that belt shops were closed inn the area of elections, he urged that wine shops should also be closed down in the area.

Mr Chalakani Rao of Senior Citizens Association, MR Laxma Reddy of Jana Chaitanya Vedika were among the delegation that met the CEO.(NSS)
