End Political Uncertainty, Lok Satta Asks Legislators

Hyderabad: The Lok Satta Party has called upon the Legislative Assembly to end the political uncertainty in the State by arriving at a satisfactory solution to the demands for and against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. The uncertainty for the last one year and a half has led to paralysis in administration and a setback to economic development, the party said in a resolution adopted at its two-day State Working Committee meeting, which concluded yesterday.

Briefing media on the party’s deliberations, party Working President D. V. V. S. Varma, Secretary P.Bhaskara Rao said today that there could be no greater misfortune than the Assembly’s failure to discuss an important issue. With the two main political parties split on regional lines, the Assembly being the supreme forum for discussing people’s problems should take the lead in hammering out an acceptable solution and ending political uncertainty.
The Lok Satta Party will organize a campaign from March 15 to 20 during which people will be writing letters and civil society organizations holding meetings appealing to legislators to discuss the issue and arrive at a solution.

The Lok Satta Party will mobilize public opinion from March 20 to 23 against the Government permitting thermal power projects indiscriminately and gifting away vast tracts of coastline to seaports. The party will organize meetings and seminars to underline that the Government undertaker development without harming the environment and interests of people to be displaced.

During March and April, the party will undertake a membership enrolment drive, hold organization elections, and train youth and farmers in leadership.

The party decided to extend its support to CPI candidate P. J. Chandrasekhar in the elections to the Legislative Council from the Assembly, in response to CPI leader Narayana’s request to Lok Satta Party President Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan. (NSS)
