Hyderabad: Four students, who were on an indefinite fast at Arts College in Osmania University campus were on Wednesday shifted to the Gandhi Hospital, as their health deteriorated. More than 50 students are still continuing the fast-unto-death demanding Telangana state for the third consecutive day.
Meanwhile, the senior BJP leader, Mr Bandaru Dattatreya, created a flutter by sneaking into the campus despite police conducting identity checks at all the entry points. He visited the fasting students at Arts College and enquired about their health. Disguised as an advocate in a suit and covering his face with a cloth, he managed to enter the campus on a bike along with another advocate. However, the police arrested Mr Dattatreya while he was leaving the campus.
The CPI leaders Mr Chada Venkata Reddy and Mr G. Mallesh were also arrested. The Telangana Students’ JAC convenor, Mr Nehru Naik, KUJAC leaders, Mr Vasudeva Reddy and Mr Raji Reddy were admitted to the hospital.
Doctors said they had developed kidney-related problems. Meanwhile, many educational institutions in the city were closed on Wednesday on account of the bandh call given by OUJAC in support of fasting students. It has also called for “Chalo Assembly” on July 15 demanding that the Speaker, Mr N. Manohar, accept the resignations tendered by the Telangana MLAs. Deccan Chronicle
