GHMC to grade star hotels on cleanliness

Hyderabad: Star hotels in the city would be graded based on certain parameters as part of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s efforts to keep the city clean and green.

Appealing to the star hotel to avoid the use of plastics keeping view of public health, Mayor Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy on Thursday invited the star hotels to take part in development of Hyderabad into a clean and healthy city for our future and future generations.

Addressing in an interaction meeting with the star hoteliers in GHMC, the Mayor said that “as stakeholders of Hyderabad city, it is our collective responsibility to provide friendly environment by not using the plastic material as it is health hazardous to the public.”

Ms Karthika Reddy added that, “a team of task force comprising Chief Medical Officer of Health, Chief Veterinary Officer, three Assistant Medical Officers of Health and Vigilance Inspector of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation shall inspect and evaluate on the parameters and allocate the marks of grading to the star hotels.

She also announced the parameters for grading of star hotels would be cleanliness of surroundings (15 marks), results of the Food samples lifted from star hotels (15 marks), drinking water quality (15 marks), maintenance of kitchen (15 marks), cleanliness of utensils etc., (15 marks), parking facilities (25 marks).

Violation of Statutory norms and other provisions, Usage of plastics would be given ten negative marks.

Deputy Mayor Jaffar Hussain said that, “generally the business establishments did not take notice on norms and conditions of trade license and otherwise it would help in maintenance of good environment.”

Mr Hussain added that the GHMC is concerned with public safety and business promotion of hoteliers and he opined that the certified issued by the GHMC would help them in providing better facilities for customers and their promotion.

Later on strict inspections will be done by GHMC basing on the guidelines of trade license, without considering the grade of the hotels, he added.

He further said, the hoteliers should avoid plastic table covers, use and throw material and he expected their good cooperation on the initiatives taken by the GHMC in making a clean and healthy city. (INN)
