Hyderabad: With the AP High Court taking a serious view on the violation of parking norms in commercial establishments and encroachments on footpaths, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has finally decided to launch a drive from Tuesday to remove all the encroachments from footpaths.
About a hundred stretches of main roads at various places have been identified in all 18 circles of the GHMC. Instructions have been issued to the zonal commissioners and deputy municipal commissioners to evict encroachments with the help of town-planning officials. The officials have also decided to crack the whip against malls, shopping complexes and residential complexes that have converted their parking space for other commercial and residential purposes.
“We have identified 675 commercial establishments that do not provide parking or have converted its parking space for other purposes. We are serving notices on them and will take serious action including closure of the establishments if parking space is not restored,” the GHMC additional commissioner, Mr K. Dhanunjaya Reddy, told this correspondent. The civic body is also preparing a list of buildings for which an occupancy certificate was not taken from the GHMC but was sold by the builder to various parties which have occupied the buildings in violation of building rules.
Also, there are have been cases where the builders violated the building norms after obtaining an occupancy certificate. “We will take action against such buildings including sealing of the premises. The focus will be on commercial buildings,” Mr Reddy added. Deccan Chronicle
