Governor asks children to increase green cover

Hyderabad: Governor E S L Narasimhan on Tuesday stressed the need for increasing green cover, by planting more trees, in order to maintain an ecological balance.

Talking to media persons after planting a sapling at Hyderabad Public School in Begumpet as part of `Green Hyderabad’ environment programme, Governor Narasimhan said that it was the responsibility of children to protect their environment by planting as many saplings as they could in their surroundings.

The Governor called upon children to protect their environment from pollution and other disasters through planting saplings.

Narasimhan also directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to take measures for planting at least 1,000 saplings around the surroundings of apartments to promote healthy environment. He also directed the officials to promote those family members who adopt protection of trees on the lines of memorial park in Guntur district.

National Disaster Authority Management vice-chairman Marri Shasidhar Reddy, Minister Danam Nagender, GHMC Mayor B Karthika reddy and commissioner Krishnababu were present in the programme.

A large number of children from the school participated in the drive `Green Hyderabad’ programme and they vowed to protect environment at any cost. (INN)
