Hyderabad: The TDP chief Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu has charged the State government with totally neglecting the welfare of dhobis, whose population was 30 lakhs in the state.
Representatives of the AP Rajaka Samkshema Sangham met Mr Naidu at the NTR Trust Bhavan on Tuesday and urged him to support their dharna at Indira Park on July 20.
Addressing them on the occasion, Mr Naidu said during his rule, he had taken several steps for the welfare of the community. Stating that his government had spent Rs 50 lakhs every year for construction of dhobi ghats, he said the Congress government did not spend even a single rupee for the same. He also said that under the Adarana scheme, his government had provided push carts, irons and bicycles to dhobis. He said the Congress government has released only Rs 20 lakhs during the past seven years to the Rajaka Sahakara Samakhya. Though the government released a GO promising Rs 1.5 lakh to cooperative societies three years ago, he said no loans were sanctioned to them so far. He demanded release of funds for dhobi ghats which were in a dilapidated state. He also assured the Rajaka Sankshema Sangham his party’s support for all its activities.
Those who met Mr. Naidu included Mr. Akkinapalli Ramesh, Mr. J Agamaiah, Mr. M Mallaiah, Mr. C H Raju and Mr. P Praveen.
