Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader in the Assembly, Mr Eetela Rajender, here on Wednesday charged the State government with making all-out efforts to scuttle the proposed Million March in Hyderabad on March 10 being organised by the Telangana Political JAC as part of intensifying agitation to exert pressure on the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre to introduce a Bill for formation of separate Telangana State in the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament.
Speaking to mediapersons here, Mr Rajender alleged that the police were resorting to preventive arrests of the Telangana activists with an intention to foil the Million March. Demanding that the government give up preventive arrests and order release of all those who have been taken into custody, the TRS leader said that though they have decided to organise the March peacefully, the government was deliberately provoking the people by rounding up Telangana activists with an intention to sabotage the March. But the State government will alone be held responsible for the future consequences, he warned.
Mr Rajender said that while the Telangana JAC wanted to organise the Million March on peaceful lines, the government was trying to intimidate them by imposing prohibitory order under Section 144 Cr PC. He also asked the government as to why it was trying to disrupt the March when the four crore people of Telangana wanted to take out the Million March peacefully. He claimed that the Home Minister, Ms P Sabitha Indra Reddy, has responded positively when they took the issue to her notice.
Stating that they would call on the Home Minister again on the issue of police excesses, the TRS leader declared that there was no question of altering the Million March programme under any circumstances. He also said that the March was postponed to afternoon on March 10 with a view to facilitate students to appear for the examinations. (NSS)
