New Delhi: AICC leader in charge of AP affairs, Mr. Gulam Nabi Azad is reported to have enquired with the Chief Minister Mr. N. Kirankumar Reddy about the MLAs supporting the YSR Congress chief Mr. Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and campaigning for him and his mother in the Kadapa by elections. He is also believed to have asked the Chief Minister about the party’s prospects in the by elections.
The Congress High Command is concerned about party MLAs openly supporting Mr. Jagan and also campaigning in the elections for him against the official nominees of the party. The party leadership is worried that campaign by the Congress MLAs against the official nominees would strike at the credibility of the party.
The Congress High Command is now concentrating on the AP affairs as elections in five states have concluded. Mr. Azad is also reported to have enquired with the Chief Minister about the Telangana issue and the present status of the movement.
It may be recalled Congress MLAs and MPs from the Telangana region have earlier met Mr. Azad and warned him that they would be constrained to resign and fight for Telangana if the party leadership did not take a decision on Telangana by the end of May. The party has earlier counseled the party Telangana leaders to wait till the Assembly polls in five states are over and assured them that it would concentrate on the Telangana issue by the end of May. It is in this backdrop that Mr. Azad has discussed about the Telangana issue with the Chief Minister. He has also reportedly talked to the Chief Minister about the MLCs to be nominated in the Governor’s quota.
The Chief Minister also proposes to go to New Delhi to discuss these issues with the party President Ms. Sonia Gandhi. He is trying for an appointment with her. Sources said that he is likely to get the appointment either on Friday evening or sometime on Saturday. (NSS)
