MIM MLA Ahmed Balala’s gunman Mohammed Jani, who opened fire at assailants when they attacked Akbaruddin Owaisi in Barkas in April, is likely to be elevated as a head constable shortly.
A few days ago, the city police sent a letter to the state government recommending promotion for Jani. When contacted, deputy commissioner of police (City Security Wing) R B Naik confirmed the reports.
“We requested the government to promote Jani. He showed exemplary presence of mind in protecting the MLA at the time of attack,” Naik said.
It is learnt that MIM has requested the city police and the state government to reward Jani suitably.
On April 30, Akbaruddin Owaisi while on a padayatra in Barkas along with Ahmed Balala and other MIM leaders was attacked by assailants reportedly owing allegiance to Mohammed Pahelwan and his family members.
When Balala and few others tried to repulse the attack, they suffered injuries with sharp-edged weapon. It was at that time, Jani opened fire at the assailants and subsequently, they fled from the location. However, one of the attackers died on the spot due to a bullet injury.
Following the attack, Akbaruddin Owaisi is being given four gunmen and a bullet proof car by the state government besides providing security at his Banjara Hills residence. Prior to the attack, Akbaruddin Owaisi used to refuse security provided by the city police.
Recently, the city police have decided to open a history-sheet against Mohammed Pahelwan and other accused in the Chandrayangutta police station. TOI
