Hyderabad: A constable was killed and six other policemen sustained injuries when a vehicle in the governor’s convoy overturned near APPA in Rajendranagar on Thursday evening. The accident took place when governor ESL Narasimhan was on his way to Chilkur Balaji temple.
At about 5.30 pm, the Tata Sumo escort II vehicle in the governor’s convoy overturned opposite Rane Engine Valve Industry near APPA.
According to Moinabad SI J Ramulu, just before the convoy’s arrival, heavy rain had lashed the area. “The vehicle skidded on the road and overturned. It rammed into an electricity pole and stopped in the bushes next to the road,” the SI added.
There were seven CAR personnel, including RSI Farooq Ali, head-constable, Sadiq Ali, constables Anand, Mukunda Rao, Shiva, Aslam and Bhaskar, in the Sumo.
After seeing the accident, the governor immediately stopped the car and got down. Transport was arranged and the critically injured driver Anand was shifted to nearby Shaadan Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
The remaining injured were shifted in another vehicle to Apollo Hospital, Jubilee Hills. The governor went to Chilkur for darshan with the rest of the convoy and rushed back to Shaadan Hospital. After paying respects to the constable who died, the governor reached Apollo Hospital and inquired about the health of the other injured staff.
According to police, among the injured, Sadiq Ali suffered spinal injuries and two others, including SI Farooq sustained fracture on his hand.
After visiting the injured at Apollo, the governor returned to Raj Bhavan at around 8.30 pm. TOI
