Hyderabad: The Rajya Sabha member and senior Congress leader, Mr V Hanumantha Rao, has demanded that the PCC Chief, Mr D Srinivas, initiate action against the leaders who were involved in anti-party activities. He also demanded the PCC chief to pressurize the Chief Minister to order a CBI inquiry against those who had amassed assets through corrupt practices.

Speaking at the PCC president’s felicitation function at Gandhi Bhavan here on Sunday, Mr Hanumantha Rao said that an inquiry like the Centre ordered into the 2G-Spectrum scam would enhance the credibility of the Congress in the Sate if it ordered an inquiry against the persons who had amassed crores of rupees overnight. He opined that the leaders have to be strong to emerge victorious in 2014 elections. He said that he was waging a lonely war against the former MP, Mr Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, because the latter was criticizing the party, which was like mother. He also questioned as to how Mr Jagan, who paid meager Rs 11 lakhs Income Tax in 2003, could pay Rs 85-crore tax in 2008.

Alleging that winning the Local Body elections was not a big thing, Mr Rao said that some of the party leaders alleging that the Congress and TDP entered into match-fixing was not good for them being in the party. He said that he and others like former chief minister, Mr K Rosaiah, have not earned money though they were in the party since 70’s.

He opined that taking action against those indulging in anti-party activities was not a big thing to Mr Srinivas, but he was not getting the grip on these issues. He also said that Mr Srinivas has not got adequate priority in the party though he deserved it.

Citing murders of advocate Ashok Reddy and former Maoist and TRS politburo member Sambasivudu took place in a single day, Mr Hanumantha Rao urged the PCC Chief to talk to the Chief Minister on Law and Order in the State, otherwise, the party would get a bad name. Mr Rao pointed out that while some of the leaders remained as PCC Chief, others could be elevated to Chief Minister post. He also opined that the Congress party came into the power in 2004 and 2009 only because of Mr Srinivas for uniting the party leaders. (NSS)
