Hyderabad: Justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy of the High Court on Friday imposed a one-month jail term to one M Mahadev, a former section officer in the state law department, for having misled the authorities in the appointment of an additional public prosecutor in a Prakasam court.
The judge had earlier stayed the appointment process when it was alleged that the selection was not done in a fair manner and two sets of lists were sent by the district authorities for selection. One was sent through the district juge and the other through the district collector. However, the HC was applicable only to the list of the district collector.
When a person from the collector’s list was appointed as the additional public prosecutor, a contempt case was moved by the aggrieved party in the HC. The judge summoned the records and obtained versions of the law secretary and others and identified the culprits who did not mention anything about the HC stay order in the note file. Two more employees of the law department K Srinivasulu and T P Anand Babu were found to be negligent and the court recommended action against them within a month. TOI
