Wondering whether a CBI inquiry is necessary into the allotment of wakf land to MNCs and private parties in Manikonda of Ranga Reddy district, the A P High Court on Thursday asked the state to explain within two weeks as to what public service it did by making such allotments.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru and Justice Vilas V Afzalpurkar made these observations while hearing a petition filed by Legislative Council member Rehman and several others who challenged the alienation of wakf land `in an unlawful manner’.
The bench also expressed its displeasure over non-filing of the counter in the case by government.
Advocate general A Sudarsan Reddy told the bench that the land allotments were made in open auctions as early as in 2005 which fetched higher prices even at that time. Lanco paid up to Rs 4.27 crore per acre even in those days, he said. TOI
