Hyderabad: Handlooms and Textiles Minister P Shankar Rao on Sunday stated that he was in a better position to deal with the separate Telangana statehood demand than Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.
“Going by his speech on the separate Telangana statehood demand in Parliament on Friday, I know more about Telangana that Mr Chidambaram. I even know more about how to deal with it,” Dr Shankar Rao said.
Talking to media persons in the city, the Minister stated that, “Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is not consulting me on any issues and there is no need to give any advice on deletion of Clause 14 F from the Presidential Orders, to him. How can I give advice to him without him asking me.”
Dr Shankar Rao said that Centre will take a favourable decision on formation of Telangana state by October-end this year. “The Congress High Command is making efforts towards this direction and my prediction will come true,” the Minister said.
Praying for the early and complete recovery of All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi, he expressed confidence that the Telangana state formation would be possible under the leadership of Ms Sonia Gandhi.
Asked to comment on his role in the formation of Telangana, Dr Shankar Rao stated that he was willing to hold discussions with anybody on the issue.
While accepting that resignations of elected representatives had had little effect on finding a solution, Dr Shankar Rao said that if resubmitting his resignation would help ensure that the Centre takes a favourable decision on Telangana, he is ready to submit his resignation immediately.
The maverick Minister, known for his ability to put his foot in his own mouth ever so often, stated that his earlier prediction, that a separate Telangana state will come into being in October this year, will come true.(INN)
