Hyderabad: The State unit of Indian Dalitha Christian Rights has expressed grave concern over the State Tribal Welfare Department’s decision to stop the scholarship to the second child from a family belonging to the Scheduled Tribes community, who was pursuing his/her education at the Hyderabad Public School at Ramanthapur and Begumpet, here citing dearth of budget.
Speaking to the media here on Saturday, the State president of the association, Mr Perike Varaprasad Rao faulted the decision of the Tribal Welfare Department to provide scholarship to only one child from a family from the ST community in the guise of lack of ST budget. Questioning the rationality behind the G.O according to which both the descendants from a family from the Scheduled Caste community can avail the benefit of scholarship, he noted that going by the G.O meant for SC and ST community people, scholarship should be provided to both the descendants in a family in case they were poor and unable to pursue their education.
Saying that the move to rescind the scholarship facility was a conspiracy to deprive the people from the community of the quality education and making them to remain underdeveloped forever, Mr Varaprasad Rao in a representation to the Chief Minister, Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy, requested him to ensure that both the descendants from a family get the benefit of scholarship and thus, enable them to pursue higher education.
Mr Varaprasad alleged that though the government was earmarking budget in crores of rupees for the benefit of students from backward class communities, the students from these communities were subjected to deplorable conditions in all respects i.e education, sports, hostel facility and feeding. He also said that the rule of reservation was not being followed by the management of the Hyderabad Public School. He demanded that the Anti- Corruption Bureau take up a probe into the assets of the management personnel of the school.
Other leaders of the association, Mr N S R Raju, Mr D Ramulu Naik and Mr Sunandana Rao, were also present. (NSS)
