Hyderabad: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) has expressed shock and unhappiness over the news reports that some of the news paper managements are putting pressure on the government not to give the Union cabinet’s nod to issue the notification on the recommendations of the Justice G R Manjithia Wages Board for the journalists and staff of news papers and news agencies.

The Secretary General of IJU, Mr K Srinivas Reddy, in a press release on Saturday, said that the Labor and Employment Minister has set March 31 as the deadline by which it wants to get the cabinet nod was all set to miss the date. The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mrs Ambika Soni, who had already given her positive opinion on the note prepared by the Labor Ministry on the recommendations on March 17 itself, must use her good offices to convince UPA Chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh to take urgent initiative to notify the recommendations, he urged.

“There were reports that when the efforts to delay the reports from most of the ministries failed, the managements are making last minute efforts to stall the notification by getting Finance, Legal and Corporate Affairs Ministries raised routine objections and unnecessary queries”, he regretted. He informed that the IJU national executive would soon meet to discuss the issue and chalk out appropriate action plan. (NSS)
