It was no gang-rape, police say lover is culprit

Hyderabad: Police have unraveled the mystery behind the sensational crime that an Intermediate student was gang raped in the city on Sunday. They said that there was no gang involved in the offence. They arrested the girl’s lover Venkatesh on Monday morning.

Police, who started investigating into the sensational case, have found that Venkatesh and the victim knew each other since some time and there was a love affair. They have taken Venkatesh into custody and questioned him. The news that a student going to a temple was gang-raped in the city in broad day light, has created flutters on Sunday. Following this a high level investigation was taken up by the police under the direction of IG Ms Anuradha.

Police said that the evidence had shown that there was no gang rape. They maintained that the incident occurred because of a love affair between the girl and the accused, who is a driver in the Central Tax office. Police have added that even Venkatesh has admitted that he was alone involved in the incident and there was no one else. Police said they found the boy’s telephone number in the victim’s mobile phone, establishing that the two knew each other.

Police have filed a case under Section 376 IPC against Venkatesh. (NSS)
