‘Jai Telangna’ dominates ‘Jai Hind’ in legislative assembly

Hyderabad: For the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, the hoisting of national flag was followed by slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’ and not ‘Jai Hind’.

The Independence Day celebrations in the legislative assembly premises were marred by protests by the suspended TDP MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy who tried to hoists Telangana flag along with the national flag Tiranga. Tension mounted when Janardhan Reddy tried to reach the corridor where Assembly Speaker N Manohar was to hoist the Tiranga. Nagam was holding a national flag, as well as Telangana flag, in his hands. However, a police official swung into action and snatched both the flags from Nagam’s hand before he could proceed further.

Soon after the recital of national anthem, Nagam started raising Jai Telangana slogans. However, he also shouted ‘Jai Bharat’ once or twice, but it was ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans than dominated the flag hoisting ceremony at the assembly premises.

Later, Nagam asked Speaker as to why he was not allowing hoisting of Telangana flag. He also complained that the Speaker was not available to meet Telangana legislators and also rejected their resignations. Reacting to Nagam’s compalint, the Speaker gave an appointment to Nagam and three other MLAs at 2 pm on Tuesday to discuss the resignation issue.

Dy Speakder M Bhatti Vikramarka and the assembly staff were was also present during the Independence Day celebrations. (INN)
