Hyderabad: YSR Congress Party spokesperson Gattu Ramachandra Rao on Sunday alleged that Congress leaders are levelling baseless allegations against his party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy as they are unable to digest his growing popularity.
Talking to media persons at Sagar Society in the city, Mr Ramachandra Rao stated the Congress leaders are targeting Mr Jaganmohan Reddy as huge crowds were forming to welcome him during his Odarpu yatra and at his public meetings.
“Unable to digest the growing popularity of Mr Jaganmohan Reddy, the Congress leaders are getting more jittery and are resorting to levelling baseless charges against him,” the YSR Congress Party spokesperson stated.
Responding to the allegations levelled against the Kadapa MP by Revenue Minister Raghuveera Reddy that Mr Jaganmohan Reddy had launched the Odarpu Yatra with an eye on the Chief Minister’s post, Mr Ramachandra Rao stated that even if his party chief had stayed on in the Congress party and was offered the Chief Minister post, he would have continued his Odarpu Yatra.
Stating that Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu has no moral right to criticise Mr Jaganmohan Reddy on farmers’ issue, the YSR Congress Party leader stated that the farmers, who were deprived of all assistance during the TDP’s rule, would not believe the former chief minister’s overtures towards them.
“Though the state has sent large number of MPs to the Parliament, the United Progressive Alliance government has not recognised the importance of Andhra Pradesh and has failed to release adequate funds for its development,” Mr Ramachandra Rao said.
“Even during times when natural disasters ravage the state, the Centre had failed to release liberal funds for the victims,” he added. (INN)
