Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Union Territory Sadhana Samithi has lashed out at Mr Jupalli Krishna Rao for undertaking “Palamuru Prajabhiman Padayatra” and said that it was only aimed at deriving political mileage.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday, the Samithi convener, Mr Venkataiah Kodicherla, said that Mr Krishna Rao was taking up the padayatra only to enhance his stature among the people of the region. He called upon the people of the district to shun his padayatra. Referring to his resignation from the cabinet, he said that it was not for the cause of Telangana, but owing to his simmering displeasure over the allotment of insignificant portfolio to him.

Mr Venkataiah also alleged that the political leaders from the region have been raising the issue of Telangana time and again for selfish political gains. “Though the Palamuru district was synonymous with migrations and drought and remained backward in all aspects since the very beginning, no leader from the region has done anything to bring about a change in such a pathetic state”, he noted.

Mr Venkataiah also said that declaration of Hyderabad as Union Territory was the only solution to the decades-long Telangana issue. He also suggested that Hyderabad has to be remained as the joint capital of both the Telangana and Seemandhra States for the first 15 years until the latter has put the requisite infrastructure in place, in case the State was bifurcated.

Other leaders of the Samithi, Mr Kumar Choudari Yadav, Mr Rajender Mudiraj, Mr Mallesh Yadav, Mr Mahesh, Mr Srinivas Rao, Mr Kumar Swamy and Mr Mahesh Goud, were also present. (NSS)
